Details about Nokia - Nokia 3

Back in 2011, Nokia unveiled its first smartphone running Windows Phone Operating System, this was the big shift for the company from Symbian OS. But in 2014 after Nokia’s Devices and services acquisition by Microsoft, things started to get a bit shaky for both Windows Mobile OS and Nokia branded phones. The Nokia branding on new Lumia phones disappeared and we all thought that Nokia is gone but no, it’s not gone, this year in Mobile world congress, Nokia unveiled its nostalgic phone 3310 with a new overhauled design and that was the proof that Nokia is coming back in the mobile industry again. And in the recent HMD Global’s event in New Delhi, it was confirmed that Nokia will be launching new Android phones. i.e., Nokia 3, Nokia 5 and Nokia 6. The launch date for these 3 phones is set separately. Nokia 3 launched on 16th June while their Sibling phones are set to launch in the first-second week of July. So this was about the new Nokia phones and lets us now see how the Nokia 3 performs on the budget phones scale.

Design and Build Quality:

This phone is only available in offline retail stores at around 9500 rupees. On the front, It has got a 5-inch 720p polarized LCD display that’s slightly curved. The screen is protected by Corning Gorilla glass but which gorilla glass? It is not mentioned on the box or on the website. Viewing angles are good, and it gets surprisingly bright, but the lower resolution takes a bit of time to get used to. It’s far from the worst 720p panel I have seen though, and for the price it comes, it’s hard to complain. The power button and volume rocker are on the right which I liked but what I didn’t like is that its placed very high which gets really annoying when you can’t reach the button.

The frame of the phone is made up of aluminum and the back of the phone is made up of polycarbonate. The phones look premium but when you hold the phone it feels a bit slippery so you might wanna use the phone with a case if you don’t want any risk for damage when slipped.

Nokia has picked a really nice selection of colors, something that often gets overlooked. It is available in Silver White, Tempered Blue, Copper White & Matte Black which we are using right now.

Camera:

Both the cameras on the Nokia 3 are 8-megapixel sensors with f/2.0 apertures, though it seems Nokia is aiming it more at those who take more selfies than landscapes. The front camera has also auto-focus with wider 84-degree lens for cramming in more faces. It is not the fastest auto-focus speed that I’ve seen but its decently fast for the price it comes.

Special features like Mute on pickup and turn over to reject call are also provided which comes in handy if you’re attending a meeting.

The phone also comes with an NFC reader so tap to pay features is just a set up away. Android Beam works flawlessly with other NFC enabled Android devices. There is no fingerprint reader on the phone just the like Moto C plus. But the price difference between them is about 3500 rupees. The phone is powered by 1.3Ghz MediaTek processor coupled with 2 GB RAM. The internal memory is only 16GB, but the good news is that a dedicated SD card slot is provided which can be expanded up to 128GB. We faced some performance issues when it was constantly connected to the WiFi. The phone sometimes becomes unresponsive for few seconds. But I think it can be fixed in future updates.

Battery:

The 2,650mAh battery will get you through the day, especially when you take into account the low-res display and lower amount of RAM. But in my opinion, they could have packed a bigger battery like Moto C Plus which comes with a huge 4000mAh battery.

Software:

Coming to the software part, the Nokia 3 comes with a stock version of Android Nougat, with a full spread of Google Services and no unnecessary extras. You’ll get an experience that’s focused and clutter-free, and Nokia has also promised to deliver regular updates, so this phone will always stay on top of features and security. This lighter software layer also helps the phone run faster.
So coming to the verdict should you buy this phone? Specs wise this phone is similar to Moto C plus but comes at the price of Yureka Black with which Nokia 3 has no competition. Nokia 3 looks great but It’s not worth the price if you compare with other smartphones. Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 are also coming in few weeks so why don’t you wait & add more 3-4,000 rupees and get a premium looking phone, with bigger RAM, storage, and faster processor. And the Nokia branding.
