Last Year LG came up with the modular phones which so far has been proven to be a failure. This year LG has switched gears with the G6.
The LG G6 has already been launched in India and this phone is available to buy on online and offline stores.
The phone comes with small bezels and a polished design and it’s 5.7” inch display has an uncommon 18 by 9 aspect ratio. Because of this taller screen proportion the 16:9 videos will have black bars on the sides.
G6’s design is sleek, sturdy metal frame that feels worthy of a flagship. You can tell just by looking at the materials used. G6’s back is protected by Gorilla glass 5 and a pane of Gorilla glass 3 covers the screen. Both front and back glass edges are enclosed with an aluminium frame. This design helped LG G6 hit the mark of IP68.
The phone is dust and water resistant. It can be submerged in about 3 feet of water for up to 30 mins. Unfortunately, Water resistance phones comes with non-removable batteries. And the same applies for the G6. LG has increased the battery capacity just a notch of 3300mAh in G6 which will be enough to last for a day.
The LG G6 come with a dual camera setup on the back and just below it a finger print sensor. The placement is perfect and it is always in reach of the index finger.
The volume keys are on the left side and the SIM & microSD card slot on the right. Indian variant of G6 comes with a 64GB internal storage and can be massively expanded to 2TB of external storage.
Coming back to camera, the dual-camera setup with two 13 MP sensors, one for wide angle shots and other for regular shots. Similar to Samsung S8, LG G6 also sports an Optical Image Stabilization sensor which helps to reduce blurriness of images when captured stills and record smooth and stable videos. The camera also features Electronic Image Stabilisation, Phase Detection Autofocus and multi-view which lets you capture images from both front and back camera lens simultaneously. The front camera is only 5 Megapixels but features with 100-degree wide angle lens. The pictures from the G6’s camera is generally sharp and vibrant. Low light images are not as good as compared to Samsung S8. LG has also added a separate camera app called Square camera which packs different shooting modes that you can play with.
LG G6 runs on Android Nougat 7.0 and was first non-pixel smartphone that came with Google Assistant when showcased at Mobile World Congress 2017. You can chat with the assistant and ask random facts, news and nearby places. Since the assistant is deeply integrated with Google services, so it can remind about events in your calendar or call or emails.
G6 is running on a year-old Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor coupled with 4GB low power DDR4 RAM. Samsung S8 has the advantage of new 10nm powerful Snapdragon 835 chip in terms of performance. But G6 beats Samsung for the price it offers in stores. In India G6 is sold at 52000 rupees compared to bit expensive Samsung S8 being sold at 58000. Overall the G6 and the S8 share various similarity in specs and built quality.
The S8 may still be the superior phone but LG has built a phone that feels ready to compete with the best of the best.
