Lenovo is a popular smartphone manufacturer brand in India. And they recently launched a new phone, the K8 Note in K-series line-up.
Compared to the last year’s Lenovo K6 Note, the K8 note has lot of improvements in terms of design and UI. The phone comes with a stock android which is lot cleaner and smoother than their Vibe UI. The phone has a 13+5 MP dual camera at the back. And at the set upfront the selfie camera is also 13 MP and comes with flash. The phone comes with a best specs one can get in this price range. It has a 4GB Ram and 64GB internal storage and it also comes with another option with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage. In our overall usage experience the phone performed very well and we didn’t had much issues apart from the heating and we give this phone a score of 8 out of 10.
Lenovo offers nothing new particularly in terms of design as metal back looks similar to the Redmi note 4. The one hand use of this phone is good and the rounded edges makes the grip more firm. The buttons are very click-y but hard to press. The Full HD screen is protected by Corning gorilla glass and the glass is 2.5D curved. The phone has capacitive buttons but unfortunately they cannot be interchanged. The finger print scanner is at the back which can quickly unlocks the phone in about 0.3 seconds. The back of the phone is completely constructed with metal. The phone is heavier to hold but doesn’t feel slippery. Overall looks of the phone gives a premium feel.
On the left it has a dedicated music key, not many phones come with an extra key and even if it does you can’t really remap it but that is not the case with K8 Note. This music key which comes with primary function to control music playback can also be remapped to performs other functions. While it may seems that a dedicated music key will be useful but that is not the case because we mostly listen music from earphones which already has a dedicated key. So we remapped it start other apps like Instagram or WhatsApp and even if you don’t like that too you can at least set it to start/stop the flashlight.
The battery life is not good as we expected from a 4000mah battery, The standby time is very poor. It can only last at most a day and nothing more than that. Even though phone comes with a fast charger it takes about 2 hours and 30 mins to charge it completely. It gets really hot while charging, and I mean really really hot. It charges up to 60% in 1:30 hours.
Coming to the main USP of the phone, its dual camera which can capture DSLR like photos with blurred background. But we were quite disappointed because the depth effect is not very good, we took some photos outdoor but the edges of the object are distorted. Sometimes it works and sometimes it don’t but one can only hope that Lenovo fix this in future updates. Apart from depth effect the colors in the pictures looks natural and detailed and color reproduction is very accurate. Daylight photos are good but in low light it catches lot of noise and ruins the overall camera experience. The phones doesn’t have any kind of stabilization and cannot record videos in 4K but apart from this we have no complain about the camera so far, the front camera takes good pictures in indoors as well as outdoors and the front flash helps in low light selfies. The only complain we had was the shutter speed is very slow while capturing from both the front and back cameras.
Just the Moto E4 Plus, K8 Note’s speaker is pretty loud and is powered by Dolby Atmos which is something nice to have.
The phone comes with stock android with some Microsoft apps preloaded. And runs on a new 10 core processor which can handles the everyday tasks pretty much smoothly. It ships with all the basic sensors including compass and led notification light. It has 4GB RAM to handle apps and a massive 64GB internal storage to store all your movies and photos, and even if that’s not enough for you, you can easily expand the storage up to 128GB via a dedicated micro SD slot. The phone accepts 2 Nano SIM and has support for 4G VoLTE.
So coming to the verdict, the phone packs all the top specs at the price of 14000 rupees and handles multi-tasking very smoothly, the battery doesn’t last for a full day so if Lenovo could fix the battery performance and heating issue in software updates then it could be the best phone in the mid-range segment right now with dual camera which doesn’t cost you much.
