Geekbench Score: 1,919 for Single Core and 6,633 for Multi-Core.
It has 6 GB RAM with Kirin 970 Processor
Comes with Android Oreo 8.0 with EMUI 8.0 Skin on the top of it.
Honor View 10 gets Face Unlock feature in OTA Update and the camera uses ISR (Intelligent Screen Recognition) to detect the objects and apply best settings for the screen. It was released in India on 8th January 2018. This is now another 18:9 display phone from Huawei. In fact, the report says, Honor Android Phones will now only feature 18:9 display. Last year Huawei launched two 18:9 Full View Display Phones: Honor 9i (Review) and Honor 8 Pro. Honor 8 Pro was the flagship phone and the direct competitor to OnePlus 5 (Review). Both the phones fall in the price range of Rs. 20,000. But, Huawei has started this year with a higher price range. Honor view 10 smartphone price in India is around Rs. 29,999. The phone could be a direct competitor to OnePlus 5T. Honor View 10 comes with Huawei’s Kirin 970 Processor which is AI Processor. Kirin 970 Processor is the latest silicon chip by Huawei and it has a key feature called as “Neural Processing Unit (NPU)” which makes Honor View 10 first AI-Powered Huawei Device. Neural Processing Unit enables some Artificial Intelligence(AI) features on Honor View 10 like learning the behavior of the user, real-time language translation and Face Recognition feature. So, does Face Unlock feature works on Honor View 10? Let’s find out in the review.
With the 5.99” inch display and aspect ratio of 18:9, Honor View 10 will not fail to impress you. The Screen is taller and borders are narrower. You can see very thin borders around the display and slightly thicker border at the top and the bottom. The front camera is placed above the display on the left side with the array of sensors and earpiece grill. In Honor 7x, fingerprint scanner was on the back but for Honor view 10, Huawei has shifted it on the bottom of the display, which also works as a navigation button. Honor View 10 is available in two color variants: Navy Blue and Midnight Black. We had the Navy-Blue variant, and trust me it feels really premium while holding this phone in your hand. So, if you are someone who likes to watch movies on the big screen then this is the phone for you.
The back of Honor View 10 Phone is made up of Metal Unibody. You can see the antenna bands at the top and the bottom of the back. The dual-camera setup is same as Honor 7x, but a single-LED Flash is on the right side in Honor View 10. The lenses of the camera are extended out of the body but the camera is surrounded by the metal. So, you can place the phone on the flat surface without any worries of scratches on the camera.
View 10 has volume and power buttons are on the right side of the phone. The power button was easy to press but I needed to stretch my thumb to press the volume up buttons. On the left, you can see hybrid dual-SIM tray. The speaker grill and the headphone jack of 3.5mm are at the bottom with the USB Type-C port. View 10 has the Infrared Blaster at the top to control IR Devices with a secondary microphone on the top-left. The curved sides and metal unibody give the phone a different look, though the metal back is quite slippery. Back doesn’t attract any smudges.
The Huawei Honor V10 weighs around 172 grams. The viewing angles of the display are good. The screen-protector is pre-applied on the View 10. The screen is an IPS Panel with the Full HD+ Display which has a resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixel, which is lower than that of Honor 8 Pro. The sunlight readability on the LCD Display is really good. We played games and watched some videos on this display and I have to say Honor View 10 was really impressive. So, Display is one of the Pros of the Honor View 10. But View 10 do not have any IP Rating.
Huawei’s Honor View 10 comes with Android Oreo with the Emotion UI (EMUI) skin on the top of it. View 10 features EMUI 8.0 which has similar look and feel as EMUI 5.0 but with some cool additional features. Honor View 10 AI Features is the additional plus point in software. Let’s see what is new in EMUI 8.
EMUI 8.0 has a lot of customization option. You get a theme store in which there are a lot of themes from which you can choose any one according to your preference. There is also an option to enable and disable app drawer and customize the Home screen style. There is an app twin feature which we have seen on other Huawei devices too. It lets you run two instances of same social networking apps like Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp at once.
You get a couple of new features in Display settings. You can now change the color temperature of the display anywhere between warmer and colder tone. There is a feature called “Eye Comfort” which gives yellowish tint on the screen to relive the visual fatigue. It helps you reduce the eye-strain. You can also switch the screen resolution between HD+ and FHD+. There are some apps which are not optimized for the Full-screen display. EMUI 8.0 allows you to enable the full-screen display for such apps, but it may display such apps incorrectly
Security could be one of the key features of EMUI 8.0. Fingerprint ID, Face recognition, and Screen lock with a password are three general security options. But apart from that, there is one useful option called as “Private Space”. In the private space, you can have some other apps and files available there and lock it with other fingerprint sensor called “Private Space Fingerprint”. It will be automatically enabled when you unlock the phone with your Private Space Fingerprint. This feature would be really useful when you are giving your phone to kids. Another security feature is “File Safe”. By enabling this feature, you can encrypt your files, photos, videos and it cannot be accessed without the fingerprint or the password.
Huawei has played a lot with the navigation in EMUI 8.0. There are three ways you can operate system navigation: Off-screen navigation, Virtual navigation, and using Navigation Dock.
In Virtual Navigation option, you get the Virtual Navigation bar on the screen. And you can also customize the combination of the navigation buttons according to your preference.
In Off-screen navigation, the fingerprint scanner works as a navigation bar. You can touch, press and hold, slide left or right to perform the same tasks by navigation bar. Personally, I found the virtual navigation to be most comfortable.
Navigation Dock is the nothing but the iOS quick touch. You can touch it to go back, release after touch and hold to go on the home screen. I hope Huawei will let users customize the navigation dock according to their preference in the future updates.
One-handed UI is something we have seen on all the other Honor devices. You can swipe right on the navigation bar to switch between mini screen and full-screen view. And it can be also applied on a keyboard. Now let’s talk about the gestures. You can flip the phone to mute, pick up to wake the device, and raise to ear to answer the calls automatically.
You can use your one knuckle to take the screenshot and two knuckles to start the screen recording. Two knuckle tapping starts Screen recording. Drawing a line across the device using your knuckle enables split-screen mode. You can also draw some gestures on the phone to open the specific apps.
Huawei has used Kirin 970 processor to enable the AI features in Honor View 10. View 10 has a translator app by Microsoft which is different from the one on Google play store. This app helps you out to translate the text on the receiver end while you are chatting with someone using regular apps. The translation is also possible via Voice.
Talking about the Face unlock, after OTA Update it is possible to unlock the phone using the Face ID.
The camera is something in which NPU of Kirin 970 Processor comes into the picture. Honor View 10 Camera uses ISR (Intelligent Screen Recognition) which helps the camera to apply the best setting according to the scene. The camera detects the object and applies its best setting using ISR. The Camera app comes loaded with the features like Portrait mode, moving pictures, time-lapse, panorama and pro-mode. You get the pro-mode for videos too. Since the phone is AI-centric, you will get some Augmented Reality Stickers in the camera app.
The View 10 Rear Camera is AI-powered Dual Camera with 20+16 MP setup. View 10 is using its Neural Processing Unit to detect the subject in the picture and uses the best setting according to its AI-algorithm. Honor View 10 uses ISR (Intelligent Screen Recognition) which helps the camera to capture better photos. And image quality is absolutely impressive. Edge detection, Colour reproduction blurring works perfectly fine. View 10 has managed to produce a natural depth-effect. I did not see any distortion while zooming the images. The daylight image of View 10 looks good but a low-light image is where the camera is lagging behind. The low light images were lacking some details.
The View 10 Front Camera is of 13 MP and also gives good results. You can also enhance your selfies using beautify mode. It blurs the background in the portrait mode but while group selfie it leaves the background unblurred. Again, the low-light images are just above average. But maybe this is just a software bug and will be fixed in the future updates.
When it comes to video-recording, View 10 Rear camera can shoot 4K Videos and there is also an option of shooting 1080p videos and 60fps. You also get pro-mode for the video recording. But there was no any video-stabilization mode available in the camera app.
Here are some camera samples of Honor View 10:
Honor View 10 features 6GB RAM and Kirin 970 Processor which is Huawei’s in-house Processor. It is an octa-core processor. Four cores are clocked at 2.36 GHz and the other four are clocked at 1.8GHz. The key feature of this processor is its Neural Processing Unit enabling the AI features on the phone. The internal storage of Honor View 10 is 128GB which is expandable up to 256GB.
The multitasking on this phone is quite smooth. Apps launch real quick. We played games like Asphalt 8 and Shadow Fight 3 which came preloaded and there was no any lag or frame drops observed. EMUI Game suite feature blocks the notifications and hides the navigation bar while gaming to avoid the interruptions. Most of the games are runs at 16:9 aspect ratio but EMUI 8.0 allows you to run such apps in 18:9 aspect ratio. The speaker is at the bottom which is really loud and you can cover it easily when you hold it in the landscape mode.
Honor View 10 comes with the battery with a capacity of 3750mAh. We used the phone as an average user and played some games. The phone managed to last for one day. Though it ran out within 20 hours when played some high-resolution videos on loop. You will find a battery saving mode in the settings which block some background app activity and stops auto-synchronization. And there is also Ultra power saving mode now, which allows the phone to do only calls and messages for longer usage of the phone. There is also a feature of switching between the FHD+ resolution to HD+ resolution which we have also seen in Samsung Galaxy S8(Review) and Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus (Review). It really helps to save the battery life in daily usage. And if you enable the smart setting, screen resolution will be automatically switched from FHD+ to HD+ once your battery is low and also depends on what you are using on the phone.
Honor View 10 AnTuTu Benchmark score is 174,327. In Geekbench, it scored 1,919 and 6,633 for Single Core and Multi-core respectively.
The Fingerprint scanner of Honor View 10 unlocks the phone really quick. Huawei claims users will be able to use Face unlock feature in upcoming OTA update. Huawei also stated that the NPU of the Kirin 970 Processor executes AI tasks much faster than the CPU. Honor View 10 has the SAR Value of 1.03.
The connectivity option does have 4G and VoLTE for both the SIM Slots. Most of the phones don’t allow VoLTE access for the secondary slim slot but this is not the case in Honor View 10. That means you can use Jio sim in any sim slot you want. Other connectivity options are Dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2+BLE, NFC, USB OTG. For navigation, it supports GPS/AGPS/GLONASS/BDS.
In Dual camera setup, 20MP Camera uses Monochrome sensor and 16MP Camera uses RGB Sensor. Other sensors in View 10 are Digital Compass, Ambient light sensor, Accelerometer, Status indicator.
You get the handset, Charger, USB Type-C Cable, Sim Card Eject Tool, Quick Start Guide, Warranty Card, TPU Protective case, and TP Protective Film which is pre-applied on the screen.
Honor View 10 packs some heavy specification and awesome features at the price segment of Rs. 29,999. Pros of View 10 are its long-running battery, AI-enabled Kirin 960 Processor, premium design and a decent camera. And on the top, you get Android Oreo 8.0 with the skin of EMUI 8.0, which has a lot of customization options. I think Huawei had worked a lot in both software and hardware department. The word “AI” is trending and will definitely attract the customers. The direct competitor to Honor View 10 is OnePlus 5T, which is Rs. 4,000 costlier than Honor View 10 but had a good camera comparatively. Some of the cons are Honor View 10 is not Water Proof, no option of Video Stabilisation, does not capture great low light images. But Honor View 10 is Best Huawei Phone yet.
