Honor has unveiled its new high mid-range on the 10th of July 2017 in India exclusively via Amazon. Honor tried to compete in the 30k price range which was hugely captured by Oneplus after the launch of its flagship Oneplus 3t last year and then announcing its latest flagship, the Oneplus 5.
Honor 8 pro has almost all the features it needs to stand against any phone of its price range or even a higher priced phone. It packs the latest Hisilicon Kirin 960 octa-core chipset with huge 6GB of RAM. It sports a beautiful 5.7 inch Quad HD screen with the protection of Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on it. In the camera department, the Honor 8 pro has a dual 12+12 megapixel camera setup on the back with a dual led flash and on the front, it has an 8MP setup which performs very well in well-lighted conditions. The phones comes with 128GB of internal storage which is excellent at this price point. The overall performance of the Honor 8 Pro is excellent and does well in almost all departments.
On the cons side, the phone has a hybrid sim setup. Hence, you need to use a single sim if you want to use the SD card for storage expansion. Though camera performance is above average but lacks OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) which makes the photos and videos a bit shaky.
Considering the price of the phone which in INR 29,999, this phone turns out to be one of the best in its class. It is one of the best performing phones produced by Honor and by far can beat almost all the other phones in its price range. The new Oneplus 5 has got a strong competition from Honor this time and it will be great to see which one excels in the Indian market.
After the Honor 8 from Huawei comes the new flagship smartphone, the Honor 8 Pro. The Honor 8 was the complete package but the mid-range specifications didn’t really permit it to come any near the “flagship” tag. The Honor 8 Pro packs all the great specs for a flagship smartphone in 2017, but does the specs merit can categorize it along with more expensive flagship devices, and the mid-range phones like the OnePlus 5? Let’s find out in our review.
The Honor 8 pro comes with a curved edge which makes it easy to fit in hand. Its sports an ultra slim metal unibody of less than 7mm. 6.97mm to be precise which beats the OnePlus 5 which is around 7.2mm in thickness.
The phone is available in two color options, navy blue or midnight black color. The screen is a bit bigger at 5.7 inches and it comes with a gorilla glass 3 protection which is not as good as OnePlus 5’s Gorilla Glass 5 protection but can manage to keep the scratches away.
The glass has 2.5D curved effect at the edges which feel good to use and swipe across. However, we’d recommend using a screen protector.
There is an 8MP camera on the front. At the bottom of the phone, we get a USB type-C port, the regular 3.5mm audio jack and the openings for the speaker. The power button and the volume button on the right. On the left, we have access to the hybrid tray which accepts two Nano sims or one sim and one micros SD card if you don’t need dual sim functionality.
Honor retains an IR blaster on the top of the phone so you have a remote control to other devices like your TV. There is also a secondary noise cancellation microphone on the top. The back holds a seamlessly built dual camera, a dual tone LED flash and a fingerprint sensor which a quick way to power on with just a touch.
Honor 8 pro has a 2K QHD resolution screen translating to a crystal-clear cinema-like performance whereas OnePlus 5 settle with 1080p screen resolution.
It is packed with 6GB of RAM, 128GB internal storage, a high-speed octa-core processor and a 4000 mAh battery giving a life of almost 2 days from a single charge, depending on your usage. The phone also ships with Huawei quick charger which can charge it fully in fairly less time. In terms of battery size, Honor 8 Pro beats the OnePlus 5 again. But it has no competition with OP5’s dash charger.
Coming back to the camera. There is 12 MP dual camera which comes with a separate sensor for color and black & white, making the picture clearer and more color accurate.
Honor 8 Pro comes with the Android nougat 7.0 out of the box with Huawei’s own highly customized interface.
The box that it ships with doubles up as a VR cardboard to get a taste of virtual reality right on this phone.
The phone in terms of performance is on par with OnePlus 5 moreover it beats the OnePlus in terms of price and internal storage and battery life. The design of the phone is also better than OnePlus 5 but it’s a matter of preference. Honor 8 Pro is bigger and slimmer than OnePlus 5. The huge size of the phone comes with a cost, the Honor 8 pro weights far heavier than OnePlus 5 at 184gms. It is definetly a better choice and less expensive than HTC U Ultra and LG G5.
To sum it all, Honor 8 Pro’s amazing specs and lower price at Rs. 30000 steals the flagship killer title from OnePlus.
