Micromax Canvas Infinity Android Oreo Update | Canvas Infinity Full Review

Micromax Canvas Infinity Android Oreo Update:

At the launch of Canvas Infinity, Micromax promised that the phone will receive Oreo Update but there was no any specific date or timeline specified. But, if you cannot wait and want Oreo Update badly, here are the steps on how to install Oreo Update on Micromax Canvas Infinity.

Software and Features in Micromax Canvas Infinity:

Canvas Infinity comes with Android 7.0 Nougat. The UI used on the Canvas infinity is less user-friendly and wannabe iOS. This UI is relatively light as compared to previous Micromax UI’s with less bloatware but it comes with apps like the Amazon, Narendra Modi app which can be uninstalled. There is an app center which is of no use and unfortunately, it cannot be removed. Similarly, there are apps for videos, music, themes which again, cannot be removed. There is an FM player support which is nice.

Some of the best features in Micromax Canvas Infinity are smart gestures, one-handed mode, smart actions. Double tap to wake is also available and smart actions like “get the call” automatically picks the call when the phone is held close to the ear, which I myself found it using more often.

Micromax Canvas Infinity special features

The onscreen navigation bar is small and transparent on some optimized first party apps but it turns black along with system tray on top for most of the apps to fit in environment originally made for 16:9 ratio screens.

Design: Smaller Bezels

The device is named Canvas Infinity obviously because of its bezel-less screen but the pictures shown on the box and at the launch event had much smaller bezels than actually, it is. The in-hand feel of the phone is quite sturdy. The frontal part houses the 18:9 screen, proximity sensor and front-facing camera to the top. The volume rockers are present on the right side with power button jagged so that you don’t end up pressing the wrong buttons. The back panel and the frame of the phone are made up of metal with plastic edges at the top and bottom. The built quality is great not very great but it’s one of the best you can get under the price bracket of 10000 rupees. The fingerprint scanner on the back takes about 0.5 seconds to 1 second to unlock depending on the background apps you are running and it works about 80% of times. There is a small camera hump which makes the phone slightly wobbly on a flat surface.

The back panel and the battery of this phone are removable. Two micro sim cards and a micro SD card can be used without compromising either one.

Display: Bad Viewing Angle

The display quality of Micromax Canvas Infinity is not that impressive. It sports an HD display of 720×1440 resolution in 5.7″ screen which looks is quite appealing in the form factor of 18 by 9 ratio. The screen is vivid but the viewing angle is very bad so far, I’ve seen this year, the screen turns blue and yellow even when viewed from slightly different angle. The brightness of the screen doesn’t quite impress us. And it is difficult to use the phone in outdoor conditions. Some real estate of the screen is taken by the onscreen navigation buttons. The phone does not come with Corning Gorilla Glass. It is IPS LCD display with Capacitive touchscreen. Although the phone is 5.7″, owing to the small bezels and form factor, the phone feels compact and light.

Micromax Canvas Infinity Camera Review: Good Front, Bad Rear

Camera quality of Micromax Canvas Infinity is something that will impress you. Not many phones come with 16 MP Front and 13 MP Rear Camera with f/2.0 aperture at the price of Rs. 10000.

The front camera of the Canvas Infinity can capture decent photos with accurate colors and with a good amount of details.  Since there is front LED flash, low light selfies are bright with some noise but it gets the job done right.

The rear camera of Canvas Infinity won’t impress you much. Even in good lighting condition, the images have noise and the colors are not proper. The light colors look dull and the darker colors are more darken in the captured image. Which brings us to the dynamic range which doesn’t help to capture accurate colors.

Micromax Canvas Infinity rear camera

If you want to capture full-screen photos i.e., in 18:9 aspect ratio then the rear camera resolution drop to only 8MP and front camera to 10MP. But the pictures captured in full screen looks gorgeous in 18:9 screen. Both the camera have a portrait mode which blurs the background like bokeh effect which is seen in phones with dual camera setup. The photos have a decent amount of blur but cannot stand against dual cameras. And the back camera is not as good as a front camera. Here are some samples of images that we captured.

Here are some camera samples of Canvas Infinity.

So, overall camera performance of Canvas Infinity, a Front camera captures decent photos but the rear camera may disappoint you.

Performance: Scored 31050 on AnTuTu Benchmark

Micromax Canvas Infinity runs on entry-level processor snapdragon 425 SOC clocked at 1.4 GHz coupled with 3 GB RAM and 32GB internal storage. We did the AnTuTu benchmark test of Canvas Infinity and it scored 31050 on a test.

The phone is very sluggish probably because of the skin on Android. It gets worse in the notification center, which literally lags in performing simple transition animation. Apart from that, the performance is satisfactory and we cannot expect any more for the price.

Micromax Canvas Infinity benchmark

The speaker is decently loud but not as loud as other phones in this price range, the lows and highs are well balanced but the speaker placement at the back blocks the audio when placed flat on the surface. The audio experience in earphones is good as the bass and mids are pretty clear and loud.

Gaming Review:

Gaming experience of Canvas Infinity was quite good. Games like Asphalt 8 runs smoothly on medium graphics setting and the phone doesn’t heat up much after playing it for 10-20 mins. And if you’re wondering that games have a black bar on sides then that’s not the case in this phone, you get full-screen experience at least for popular apps and games.

Battery Life and Charging time: Take 2 Hours to Charge and 5 hours of Battery Backup

The battery backup on Micromax Canvas Infinity is poor. The screen on time you will get with normal usage is approximately 5-6 Hours on this phone. Also, since there is no fast charging on Canvas Infinity, it takes about 2 hours to charge. With the battery capacity of 2900 mAh, battery life and charging time of Canvas Infinity will disappoint you. In fact, some users are facing charging issues after using for 5-6 months.

Here is a list of Pros and Cons of Micromax Canvas Infinity:

  1. Decent Selfie Camera
  2. Bezel-less screen
  3. Good Gaming Performance
  4. Oreo Update Available

  1. Average Rear Camera Quality
  2. Poor Battery life
  3. Average Display Quality

So, is it worth buying Micromax Canvas Infinity?

Coming to the verdict, if the front camera and design is something that matters to you then you should go for it. But if you need a phone for very heavy usage with the good rear camera, then Canvas Infinity is not the phone you should go for.
