Lenovo K8 Note comes with 15W Turbo charger but I won’t say it support fast charging. Because charging time of Lenovo K8 Note is about 2 hours 30 minutes. The battery life is not as good as we expected from a 4000 mAh battery. It will provide you 8 to 10 Hours of Average use. The speed of charging is slow and standby time is very poor. The phone takes 1 hour 30 minutes to charge up to 60 percent, so it is obvious that K8 Note does not support quick charging. And it even gets hot while charging, and I mean really hot. Many users are facing charging and battery issues, which is very disappointing. K8 Note comes with micoUSB 2.0 and supports OTG.
Lenovo K8 Note is powered by Dolby Atmos speaker which is something nice to have. The speaker quality is decent. The sound output from the speaker is clear and the volume is pretty loud. The lows are very poor and we can’t hear the mids clearly if we kick the volume level to 100%. But, K8 Note does not come with the stereo speaker and uses mono speakers instead, which is at the bottom.
The phone comes with a stock android Nougat v7.1.1 which is lot cleaner and smoother than their Vibe UI. Android 8.0 Oreo update is available for Lenovo K8 note which is rolled out via OTA update. You can upgrade to Oreo from System Updates.
The phone comes with some Microsoft apps preloaded. K8 Note comes Deca-core processor clocked at 2.3 GHz which handles the everyday tasks pretty much smoothly. AnTuTu Benchmark score of Lenovo K8 note is 84000 points. GPU used in K8 Note is Mali-T880 MP4. It ships with all the basic sensors including compass and led notification light. It has 4GB RAM to handle apps and a massive 64GB internal storage to store all your movies and photos, and even if that’s not enough for you, you can easily expand the storage up to 128GB via a dedicated micro SD slot. The phone accepts 2 Nano SIM and has support for 4G VoLTE.
Dual Camera is the main USP of Lenovo K8 Note which can capture Portrait Photos. The Rear camera comes with 13 + 5 MP with f/1.7 Aperture and at the front, you get 13 MP Camera with f/2.0 aperture and LED Flash. Selfies from this phone are good.
The camera quality of Lenovo K8 Note is quite good but we were quite disappointed with the depth effect. We took some outdoor photos but the edges of the object are distorted. This effect only works with simple objects but for complex objects, it distorts the edges. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t but one can only hope that Lenovo fixes the camera in a future update.
Here are some photos and camera samples of Lenovo K8 Note. Apart from depth effect, the colors in the pictures look natural and detailed and color reproduction is very accurate. Daylight photos are good but in low light, it catches a lot of noise and ruins the overall camera experience. The phone doesn’t have any kind of stabilization and cannot record videos in 4K but apart from this we have no complaints about the camera so far, The front camera can take good pictures and has a good amount of details and in low light the front flash did a good job too in taking selfies. The only complaint we had was the camera shutter speed of K8 Note is very slow while capturing from both the front and rear cameras. The low light images have noise in them. Outdoor pictures that we took were sharp and the colors were accurate. Overall, we are impressed with the camera quality but not with the depth effect.
In terms of design, Lenovo K8 Note offers nothing new particularly as a metal back looks similar to the Redmi note 4. K8 Note has a metal body design which makes the phone heavier but it does not feel slippery and gives a premium look. The Full HD screen is protected by Corning Gorilla glass and the glass is 2.5D curved. Display type used on K8 Note is IPS LCD display. The buttons are very clicky but hard to press. The phone has capacitive buttons but unfortunately, they cannot be interchanged. The fingerprint scanner is at the back which can quickly unlock the phone in about 0.3 seconds.
On the left it has a dedicated music key, not many phones come with an extra key and even if it does you can’t really remap it but that is not the case with K8 Note. This music key which comes with a primary function to control music playback can also be remapped to performs other functions. While it may seem that a dedicated music key will be useful but that is not the case because we mostly listen to music from earphones which already has a dedicated key. So, we remapped it start other apps like Instagram or WhatsApp and even if you don’t like that too you can at least set it to start/stop the flashlight.
So, coming to the verdict, K8 Note packs all the top specs at the price of 14000 rupees and handles multi-tasking very smoothly, the battery doesn’t last for a full day so if Lenovo could fix the battery performance and heating issue in software updates then it could be the best phone in the mid-range segment right now with dual camera which doesn’t cost you much. In our overall usage experience, the phone performed very well and we didn’t have much issues apart from the heating and we give this phone a score of 8 out of 10.
