iPhone X Review in 2018 - The Best and the Cheap Apple iPhone

Reviewed by Vipin Yadav - Published on 25-08-2018

It’s 2018 and if you are still confused between the new iPhone 11 or iPhone X2 and the iPhone 10 which was released last year. So the question is should you buy this expensive phone now? When the iPhone 10 was launched, the hype of all new iPhone design with glass back was so high, and now most of the phone is coming with glass design, consider OnePlus 6, HTC u12+, Huawei p20, and many mid-range phones as well. So what’s that one thing about this phone that could encourage you to spend a fortune? So let’s revisit iPhone X.

I hear this every year “Should I buy the new iPhone?” This year, that’s even a more complicated question, because Apple released not only the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, but also the iPhone 10.

The simple answer as always is “It depends” It depends on how old your current iPhone is, whether it’s still working well, or if there are features in the new iPhone which it is, in most cases and whether they are appealing enough to give you a second thought about buying a new iPhone.

In my opinion what people are really asking is not to whether to buy an iPhone 10 but “is the iPhone 10 worth the extra cost?”

My answer will unfortunately not clear your frustrating question but it will definitely give you an idea if you should go with it or not. You probably don’t need an iPhone 10 right now. Buying an iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 Plus gets you the same A11 Bionic processor and improved camera system, plus 99 percent of the features in the iPhone 10 except Memoji. Memoji? Well, it is the new feature in iOS 12.

That said, you may really, really want one. I like the iPhone 10 a lot, enough to purchase my own space gray variant.

One of the things that have always attracted me to iPhone is technology and its connection with the future. We see a new iPhone every year, but keep in mind that technology like the iPhone 10’s Face ID security, high-quality OLED screen and advancements in processor design require years of research and development.

How secure is the FaceID?

Face ID alone is something the company has no doubt been working on for at least three to five years. Designing smaller, powerful and energy-efficient processors also require years of work. And now that Apple has done it they won’t just forget it as the new iteration of iPhone comes out with even new features.

To give you an idea here’s the last week’s headline, Even after 5 years, iPhone 5s will also officially receive iOS 12 update. So you don’t have to worry about buying a 6-month-old phone if your pocket allows it or a 5-year-old phone if you still can get your hands on.

FaceID vs Face unlock? (iPhone 10 vs OnePlus 6)

You can argue that Face ID is slower than OnePlus 6’s face unlock. Yes, I agree but the difference is that Apple has spent the time to do it right. Even on Samsung’s latest Galaxy S8 and Note 8 phones, the facial recognition can be fooled by a photo on the other hand Face ID is the most secure way to keep your phone away from unauthorized access. So that milli-second delay of Face ID is the least of your worries.

I could go on about specs and features, but here’s what it comes down to. So far, using the iPhone 10 has been a joy. Since phones are devices we use dozens of times a day, the experience is important. Seeing the lock icon open to indicate that it’s viewed and recognized my face is a tiny thrill every time it happens.

Does FaceID work in complete darkness? Or iPhone X has a fingerprint sensor?

Even better it works in the complete dark, just in case you in half sleep and you need to check your messages, you don’t have to input your passcode or remember to locate the fingerprint sensor. Often I just swipe to open the phone, and the unlocking happens so fast that I wonder if I have a lock on or not.

The whole point of having taller screen is to have more viewing area without adding bulk to the phone. OnePlus and Samsung? What are you guys doing? Having the screen extend to the outer edges without a “chin” or “forehead” is also a neat thrill whenever I use it.

Which Phone has better notch?

I’m entirely unconcerned with the notch, space carved out at the top edge of the screen is designed so perfectly which works well within all the apps, like all the apps in the phone are aware that there is a notch at the top. You don’t have to look at any weird looking solid color bars and scaling issue.

Watching movies on the iPhone 10’s OLED screen is a fantastic experience. Even when the video is expanded to fill all edges, the notch doesn’t bother me. The screen is very sharp and detailed.

Is iPhone 10 slippery or Do I need to use case?

Unlike other phones, iPhone 10 is easy to wrap your hands around and doesn’t feel slippery. The edges fit perfectly in the hand and don’t interrupt when you want to play with the phone.

Camera test of iPhone 10.

As a camera person, I love having the dual camera system and the photos come fantastic especially the portrait lighting photos. The iPhone 10 screen is actually taller and slightly narrower than the iPhone 8 Plus screen, so even though the iPhone 10 is physically smaller, you’re getting pretty much the same screen real estate.

Battery life of iPhone 10

I’ve also noticed that the iPhone 10 battery life is much improved over other iPhones, I get all day battery life with a single charge in the morning.

Should you buy an iPhone 10 in India in 2018?

So coming to the conclusion, do you really need an iPhone 10 right now? No. But if you want a complete phone and as powerful as little cheaper iPhone 8 plus but in compact form factor with little-added features, then you’ll love the iPhone 10.

Are you paying more premium to the Apple? Well, it depends but in my opinion “No” I think you are getting what you are paying for, A complete experience. This same experience cannot be compared to the other phones.

The gestures are fluid and fast. It will make you wish that other phone should also ditch the physical buttons. I do not even miss the touch ID, it was an only a hassle and delay on our side, you press the button and then the process of unlocking starts.

In the case of iPhone 10, you just raise it and you are good to go. No clutter clean, simple and secure.

I seriously don’t think that there is any other phone that can be compared to the iPhone 10, I’ve been using it for past 8 months and I cannot get enough of it. If you can afford this phone then you can totally go for it.
